The Peninsula Chapter of Virginia Tech Alumni Association hopes that you will join the Tidewater Chapter for a Memorial Ceremony at Mount Trashmore this Friday, April 20, at 6:30PM to honor and remember the students and professors lost in this week's unspeakable tragedy. Please join us as a community of Hokies to support one another and share memories, thoughts, and prayer and demonstrate our unity as a Hokie family. We extend our sincere gratitude for all of those who have kept our fellow Hokies in their thoughts and prayers over the course of the difficult days.
A young, glowing Hokie, Lauren McCain, of Hampton was lost in Monday's tragedy. The words of her friend, Katelyn Macri, help us learn of her spirit, "Lauren Ashley McCain just had one of the most infectious personalities I think I ever met, and I am so thankful that I got the opportunity of being infected by her." Please pray for her family, friends and those who knew her best. The officers of the Peninsula Chapter are working to determine how best to remember and preserve her legacy and we hope that you'll join us in honoring her in a later event.
We hope to see the community come together on Friday evening at Mt. Trashmore to honor and more those taken too early. Please invite your family, friends, and community. This is not an exclusive Hokie event, this is an event to be shared with all, because today, We are all Hokies and our sentiments were best expressed by Nikki Giovanni.
The Hokie Nation embraces our own and reaches out with open heart and hands to those who offer their hearts and minds. We are strong, and brave, and innocent, and unafraid. We are better than we think and not quite what we want to be. We are alive to the imaginations and the possibilities. We will continue to invent the future through our blood and tears and through all our sadness.
