Peninsula Chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What geographic area does the Peninsula Chapter of the VTAA cover?
A:
The Peninsula Hokies include the geographic areas of Yorktown, Seaford, Poquoson, Newport News, Hampton, Gloucester, and Mathews.

Q: Who can join the Peninsula Chapter of the VTAA?
A:
Anyone who wants to support Virginia Tech in the local community.  This includes Hokies (students and alumni), Pokies (Parents of Hokies), Spokies (Spouses of Hokies) and Fokies (Friends of Hokies).

Q: How much does it cost to join the Peninsula Chapter of the VTAA?
A:
There are no membership fees.  We are purely a volunteer organization.  Some people will make donations to the chapter's scholarship fund in lieu of a membership fee but that is entirely up to them.  Since there are no  membership fees, all events are "pay as you go" and most are free to attend like the Hokie Happy Hours and Football Game Watching Parties.

Q: Are you affiliated with the Peninsula Chapter of the Hokie Club??
A:
Not exactly.  Although we all support Virginia Tech, the Hokie Club is a membership related organization that supports the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund.  You have to formally joint the Hokie Club by making a donation.  Many members of our organization are also members of the Peninsula Chapter of the Hokie Club and their organization is always generous in helping with our events.

Q: How do you raise money for scholarships?
A:
We hold two major fundraising events per year.  They are our annual Ferguson Enterprises Golf Tournament and the Hokie Golf Classic.  As a general rule, the fee collected to participate covers the cost to the chapter to host the event.  Most, if not all, of the money collected through the sponsorships, raffle tickets and donations, and auctioned items goes directly to the scholarship fund.

Q: What types of social events do you host during a typical year?
A:
We hold several events each year.  They are our annual Spring Social, Summer Hokie Happy Hours, Fall Football Game Watching Parties, and the Freshman Send-Off Event.  Please check our events calendar for all of the details regarding upcoming events.

Q: How do I get involved?
A:
The best way to get actively involved is to fill out the information on Sign Up page.  You may also contact our officers.
